CLINIC SERVICES AND
PHILOSOPHY
WHAT IS YOUR CONDITION?
Attention: If you or your baby is colicky, learn how
Kinesiology and Functional Medicine can help understand
and meet your baby's NEEDS...
Infant Colic

Infant colic is a frustrating condition in which your baby is inconsolable from normal measures
(feeding, changing, rocking, etc), with crying lasting for 2 or more hours at a time.  There are
time definitions for the diagnosis, but any two or more hours of inconsolable crying, in my book, is
time to assess your baby’s health needs.

What Causes Colic?  While there is no official “cause” of colic, it appears to be a pain or
distress response.  My short list of based on clinical response of infants, includes:

Inflammation:  Intestinal Infections, Environmental Chemicals, Food Sensitivities
Physical Pain:  Cranial, spinal, or muscular injuries  (Birth can be a tough transition!)
Stress Response:  Adrenaline or cortisol (stress hormones).  In my experience, this typically
can be consoled, but still makes the list of consideration.

How Do You Locate the Cause?  We have two levels of “asking.”

Manual muscle testing or kinesiology.  This process uses a parent or office staff to muscle
test, while touching the baby’s muscles, spine, and acupressure points (which correspond to
stressed internal organs).  I have a short demonstration to the right.

The second option is
lab testing.  I am very sensitive to taking blood from babies, just for the
trauma to them.  We have food sensitivity testing using a finder stick, and Intestinal infection tests
and heavy metal tests using stool.

Honestly, we rarely resort to lab testing with infants, as the muscle testing works so effectively,
and if your baby is less distressed or happy again, that is all that matters.

Our fifth (yes, 5!) baby was colicky.  The only thing that would soothe his cries was testing
(using muscle testing), and treating what we found.  It involved tapping some acupressure points
and rubbing body points that correlate to internal organs.  The diagnosis was heavy metals, and
we gave him some of the remedy directly, but mostly mom took it and nursed him (he would nurse
after we treated his body points).  It took a few weeks to completely resolve, but now he may be
the happiest Stone in the family.
