Terminal Illness, Adrenal Insufficiency, healed by Mother Nature

What do you do when you have no hope? A terminal illness?

Apparently, turning to True Health is a good choice.

This is a story about a little girl, diagnosed with Pituitary and Adrenal Insufficiency, Optic nerve atrophy (blind), who wasn’t sure if she was going to stay here!  Her Doctor said she wouldn’t make it. Dr. Stone said “Pssshaw.”  And Momma followed hope. See how it turned out!

This is a story of immense faith in God and Nature.

A baby girl is born “ok,”  but crashes just hours after birth.  She is not responding to care, and her blood sugar reads 22 (80-120 is optimal)!  She spends 7 days in the NICU, finally stabilizing, and released to connect with family in a nurturing environment.

The first moment of her life where survival wasn’t the only thing that mattered.

The family leans in to feeling normal, until, at six months, they noticed something “different” about Tempi.  Her eyes would cross and jump around.  optic nerve atrophyOf course, they wanted to protect every part of her, so they schedule an appointment with the ophthalmologist, the eye specialist.  After her evaluation, the Dr. diagnoses Tempi with optic nerve hypoplasia and nystagmus, which means her visual and motor (eye movement) nerves didn’t develop normally.  “She will be blind for life, there is nothing you can do.

And you need to see a specialist to evaluate if there is a larger neurological problem behind this.

The next specialist, Medical Endocrinologist, examined Tempi and ran some tests.  She left a message on Momma’s voicemail, that her baby’s thyroid, pituitary, and adrenal glands are not functioning well.  “She has adrenal insufficiency and hypopituitarism, which means her entire endocrine system failed to develop.

Medical Prognosis: “Your baby is blind. She will die if you don’t get her on  prednisone and Synthroid!  Immediately. That is the only option.”

To which Mom said, “we’re going to get another opinion.

Mom was a patient of True Health, because during her pregnancy, she caught a cold and couldn’t shake it.  She followed her doctors recommendations, but after 3 months, she still felt miserable.  She was spiking fevers up to 105, which caused great concern for her baby, because she knew that 107 leaves the baby brain dead, and her doctors had nothing left to offer her.

This is where people call True Health.   The point of hopeless desperation.  Some say it’s the only point you can take my bedside manner (lol), and others find me rather funny.   But I’m pretty serious about healing, so I ran a battery of tests that don’t follow insurance guidelines, aka ‘I didn’t follow the rules.’

We discovered autoimmune thyroid disease, with a chronic bacterial infection as the root cause.

And her baby is living inside this distressed mom, distressed immune system and thyroid.

Mom recovered under our care, but the toll of months of ineffective care was massive stress to the baby.

Mom has an appointment at True Health, and while Dr. Stone treats her, Mom shares Tempi’s story.

Dr. Stone has a “different” perspective on healing and vastly different resources.  If Medicine’s resources are drugs and surgery, his are plants and hands.

Dr. Stone shared the concept of Functional Neurology.

The concept is, if a nerve is sick or damaged, it strengthens and grows by a unique nutrient called stimulation.  Stimulation is motor, or movement, and sensory, our five senses.

It is an undeniable clinical observation.  Whatever  you stimulate grows, if there is any life left to respond and grow.  I didn’t know if there was, but I said that if she were my baby, I would give it a shot.

The University of Alabama medical school is actively applying this concept, and they have discovered that sometimes the brain will create completely new pathways to perform the function you wish for.  If you offer faith and stimulation, your brain will find a way, even if the nerve cells are dead, like what a stroke does to the brain.

The University of Alabama in Birmingham is doing groundbreaking work on this concept. Instead of giving stroke patients a cane or wheel chair, they ask them to do exactly what they can’t do.

If the left arm and hand are paralyzed, they stimulate the fingers on that hand with sensory stimulation.  Tickle, massage, vibration, heat, cold, pinprick.  I prefer access to all of my senses and even though pain is not my favorite, it has been helpful!

And whatever movement they have left, they keep stretching it’s boundaries, asking over and over, to move just a bit farther. They have found that they can bring back full function in some cases, by just increasing the stimulation incrementally.

One patient of UAB shared her experience after a session, “My son picked me up from PT, and he had horrible music playing, so I reached to change the channel, and as I sat back in the comfort of better music, I realized I changed the station with my paralyzed arm!”

With Tempi, we had no idea if the motor and sensory “eye-ball nerves” would respond in the same fashion, but why not try!?

Dr. Stone also shared that he thought they could help her body produce growth hormone and, really, any other hormone she needed, with plant medicines.  He shared a story of a woman who had 2 miscarriages, and they were able to raise her progesterone 106 points with these plants.  She conceived again (and again), and has now birthed 2 healthy babies.

So in faith and hope, she opted to try Nature.

Mom had faith in True Health and Mother Nature because of her first hand experience of her own healing, when Medical Doctors couldn’t help her.  And the medical prognosis for her baby, was pretty dreary.

Then, the test of faith.

The Endocrinologist denies calling the authorities to report child endangerment, but Child Protective Services calls their home.  Momma is doing her absolute best in making choices for her baby. She chose hope over disability, and this was her first result.

Ma’am, we have been informed you are endangering your child by not following your doctor’s orders. We have to investigate.”

Medicine and our Government were insisting that she choose the medical prognosis.

They search the house for any signs of negligence, abuse, or crack/meth pipes, which is hilarious, as this Momma has never even smoked a cigarette. She is a devoted Momma and in a moment of indulgence might have a glass of wine.

“Hmmm…other than your house being overly clean and organized, we can’t find any evidence you hurt yourself or others.”

But this is no joke!  She was scared to death that they were going to take her baby away for not following the “dreary path.” Dr. Dreary convinced authorities that Tempi would be dead in 6 weeks without their life-saving-care.

There’s a saying, “don’t fight city hall.”  It suggests that when you butt heads with ‘the system’ you are unlikely to win.  So she didn’t fight.  She complied with every step of the investigation, and after investigating, they were not sure.  City hall decided they need a third opinion.

Pick any medical endocrinologist” in the state, and get a third opinion. Medicine runs by a play book, so everyone in medicine would likely say the same thing!   Is that fair?  Tempi’s mom and dad researched, and found Dr. P, who they heard was more conservative in his approach, and even a bit naturally minded.

To keep their baby, Mom and Dad signed an agreement that they would follow Dr. Ps advice.  They drove 2 hours with a baby who is supposedly near death, to sit with the person from the only branch of healing offered in their “contract,” who they hand picked as most likely to see their perspective.

But once a person decides what is “right,” they delete all other possibilities.   That’s a Natural Law, and Medicine has decided, “WE are right.”  And “right” has a protocol and “insurance guideline.”  The pressure is applied from these fellows.

If you don’t follow their guidelines, they will cut off your income.  Mother Nature

At the appointment, momma is choking back tears, because her freedom of choice is dependent on a doctor that has not witnessed the growth of her baby.

When she heard him cite insurance guidelines, agreeing 100% with Dr. #1, a mix of anger and hurt overwhelmed her.  As she cried, Dr. P described pituitary physiology from a medical perspective to soothe her.  He believes he has finally reached her sensibility when she stops crying.

But he was wrong.  She didn’t accept his perspective, she swallowed all her hurt, and turned it into anger and fight.  Calculating their escape, because they were told they couldn’t leave until they agreed to his recommendations, they nodded in agreement.   That is all you can do when faced with unreasonable. Their agreement offered their freedom, for now.

On the way to the car, Dad reassures his wife, “There’s no way I am giving her that MTHRFing medication!”

Now, they are ready to fight.  City hall.  Holy crap!

The next day, Momma Bear takes the field on offense.  She calls Dr. P, and says,

Now you listen to me, I am not doing anything-you-said, and here’s what I want.  Retest the labs you used to diagnose her Adrenal Insufficiency and HypoPituitarism.

Government procedure takes time, so while they investigated and agreed on the “third opinion” path, we were giving this amazingly responsive Momma stimulation exercises for her baby’s brain and visual centers.

We fed her an amazing God offered mushroom called Cordyceps, that grows in the Himalayan mountains and has published medical research studies indicating an ability to increase pituitary and adrenal hormone production.

What??   The hormones they wanted to give her can be naturally increased by a nourishing mushroom?  Dr. P used Christianity as part of his “convincing” monologue, suggesting “God sent him here to help people like Tempi,” while Mom’s distraught turned into fight.

I’ve spoken directly to God, since we work together and all, and He wonders why Dr. P thinks his medicine is better than capital H-i-s!?

Not all doctors have read this research though, in fact theres a prevailing opinion, that God did a horrible job of providing Medicine.   Because of that prevailing opinion, people who truly wish they could heal Tempi, never look in the direction of Mother Nature.  So from the perspective of ignorance, Dr. P was sure that the best way, the only way, is Prednisone.

Dr. Stone believes that both of Tempi’s real doctors have this wish, and Dr. Stone would like them to know that healing is not found in the prevailing opinion.

We prescribed another plant called Ashwagandha.  This plant has research documentation to prove that it increases thyroid hormone production, and has been passed along for 3000 years, from healer to healer, to help people who need deeper rest and healing, and more life when the sun shines.

Adrenal fatigue

While going through the fight of her life, although she was oblivious to it, our sweet zombie toddler begins to see!!

Mom: “I first realized she could see when I walked into the kitchen and turned the light on.  Her head immediately went back and she looked up at it’s brightness.”  Then her blind baby reached for a bottle on the counter.  “How did you know that was there, being blind and all?”

Tempi points at the moon, and reaches down to touch a shadow, because “the ground looks different.”

No time to celebrate, however, as they have to face “breaking their contract.”  Momma Bear says the contract was made under pressure.  She declares her plan,

I want the lab tests.  I see my baby and she is healing, and you will NOT take that away from me!

When faced with Momma Bear anger, Dr. P finds reasonableness.  He agrees to let them follow their heart, as long as they bring Tempi back regularly.  And carry a prednisone injector for when they find her unresponsive.  See, he does care.  From his perspective, the injector would save the baby from what was certainly going to happen, and then, Mom will see that he was right.

Her meetings with Dr. P defy reality. One time he even said “wow”when examining Tempi.  But then he would look at the lab results, and be reminded that insurance protocol says there is no hope, and he would hold firm to his recommendations.

Mom held firm to her direction, and the agreement to carry his prednisone pen around.

They would meet again in 3 months.  Dr. P hoping they would soon see he was right.  Momma hoping that her baby is going to be a star someday.

Tempi recently had her 4th birthday.  I hate math, but I’m pretty sure that is beyond medical prognosis.  We are working on eye coordination now, with things like eye movement exercises, barrel rolls and somersaults.  Now she’s a big sister, and little brother has no idea how disabled his big sister is, or was.  He’s never witnessed disability.  He see’s growing ability, just like him.

And still, she has a mandated endocrinology visit on her schedule. Dr. P is still sure that “this is going to go badly.”

I recall attempting “certainty.”  It’s what they taught in school, so how would I know better.  Dr. Ps medical prognosis is the result of already knowing, and our actual result is from having faith and being open to any possibility.  We were prepared for blind, just as much as seeing, probably more.  We learned to have faith in God and Nature, by leaning in and watching for results.

When Momma and Tempi aren’t wasting time with Government mandated medical visits, they live life fully.  And occasionally visit True Health to continue meeting Tempi’s needs for thriving, which seems to allow her to do everything her medical prognosis said she couldn’t do.

On her most recent visit to Dr. P, he sat back in awe of Tempi’s abilities. “Wow, this is incredible.”

Since his eyes were deceiving his certainty, he dug into her chart to find a problem.  He digs up that “she is too short,” to validate his certainty.  “Uh-oh, Nature isn’t working.  She is too short. Look at this chart, she’s way down here.”

Dr. P, look at Tempi.  Open your eyes.

Imagine Tempi’s life, if she had followed “your perspective.”  She would be blind.  That’s manageable.  Ray Charles did blind quite well.  But I wonder, if he had a choice, if he would have opted for vision.

Tempi would be fat and bloated, the side effect of prednisone.  Look at her.  She is healthy and cute as a button.

Prednisone is immune suppressive, and can cause dizziness, acne, insomnia, mood swings, and slow wound healing.  It is known to be one of the harshest medicines, in medicine.  It has dosing regulations in your “playbook,” because if you give too much, you hurt the people you care for.  And we pledged as doctors, “first, we would do no harm.”

Real Dr.’s, Nature’s medicine has never harmed anyone.  In fact, plants have side BENEFITs, like nutrients, antioxidants, minerals.  Patients report benefits that we weren’t even aiming for.  (properly used. if you swallow a tree, you will die, I think)

I wonder who would want you to believe, that God’s Medicine is ineffective?  Whoever benefits or profits from that belief must be the Devil.

For this beautiful little girl, it turns out she did have a choice.  And Momma had to face hell, to choose this path.  Doctor’s claim they are in God’s service and want to help, but the only danger to Tempi’s result was two doctors.  (Pause for reflection)

Please be kind, we don’t appreciate the criticism of “short.”  She had a slow start, because your medicine couldn’t help her Momma for 3 months.  Mother Nature helped your failure, and proved your certainty wrong.

I am certain of this, because I have witnessed it with my own two eyes.  Tempi is 4, and is the cutest zombie-toddler I have ever seen. Everything, including Life, is progressing, although a little-behind-normal.

I’m willing to wager that she catches up and surpasses normal, because she has a tenacity that only comes from overcoming struggle.

I’m not sure when “they” free you, but it’s clearly not based on results.

We did retest Tempi’s Adrenal Insufficiency labs, and we see progress.  Her ‘growth hormone’ measurement was 828, where 1113-3180 is “normal.”  This time, it measured 1100.  She’s only 13 points from “normal.”

We’re past the debate, the results have spoken.  Now we are wondering about the change this gift from God, Tempi, will make on this world.

I’m going to bet, that it will be a movement toward Nature.  And I bet, she’ll offer empathy to the blind.
